Karyn Lao is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY who explores the pompom as an object that represents community— many pieces connected by a common thread. Her work is colorful, cute, and comforting. She often shares a glimpse into her process or invites others to be part of the work. When she’s not pommin’ around, you can find Karyn making inflatable sculptures as ½ of collaborative duo, Mookntaka! Whether it be sculpting inflatables, making fun jewelry, or crafting pOm•parties, the heart of Karyn’s work is to bring people together and connect through play.
